Let’s take a look back at the last few weeks of 2012 here on GameZone. Happy New Year to all of our readers. Be safe!

Reviews

Review: Cognition Episode 1 ungraves believable drama, and you’re holding the shovel

This adventure game manages to deliver great storytelling and gripping gameplay.

Review: Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition on Wii U is challenging, charming, and cheery

While not exactly loaded with content, this Wii U rendition of the 3DS platformer is solid and worth downloading.

Review: Ratchet and Clank launch a Full Frontal Assault on tower defense games, with above average results

One of Sony’s mainstay duos is back in yet another strong installment of Ratchet and Clank, this time adding some new gameplay elements.

Review: Lego Lord of the Rings stumbles on its journey to the PS Vita

This portable fantasy adventure is anything but epic, grand, majestic, triumphant ... well, you get the  idea. It blows.

Review: Family Guy: Back To the Multiverse is a licensed project gone horribly bad

Remember the time when games based on licensed franchises were awesome all the time? Yeah, we don’t, either.

Review: The Critter Chronicles is a few penguins short of adventure

Adventure games! Sadly, not all of them are good, and Critter Chronicles is a perfect example of that.

Review: Tropico 4 Gold Edition offers the best of both third-worlds

So much Tropico, so little time. So yeah, get to it because Gold Edition will keep you busy for a while.

Review: Perixx MX-1000 gaming mouse is both impressive and inexpensive

You get a lot of good mouse gaming quality for a small price with this one.

Review: Under Defeat HD achieves a modest victory

If you’re a fan of shoot ‘em ups, you’ll likely enjoy the intense action of this romp.

Review: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City iOS makes a glorious, cheap return on the mobile front

One of the most iconic games of all time goes mobile and succeeds once more. Car-jacking never gets old!

Review: Rift: Storm Legion offers a ton of content

Storm Legion gives Rift players something definitely worth writing home about: a buttload of new content.

Review: Skylanders Giants stomps onto Wii U with authority

The sequel to the awesome Skylanders lands on the Wii U and delivers a truly enjoyable adventure. Also, toys!

Review: The Hobbit juggles too many expectations and can't meet them all

The Hobbit delivers a wondrous fantasy experience that isn’t perfect but is certainly impressive.

Review: Skullcandy's PLYR 2 Wireless Gaming Headset offers plenty of bang for the buck

This thing isn’t cheap, but it’s certainly a worthwhile investment. Plus, dat sound quality!

Review: Funky Barn is a delightful farming game with the case of uglies

You should totally buy this neat little farming game ... after it gets a price reduction, that is.

Review: Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition is the definitive caped crusader experience

The Dark Knight lands on Nintendo’s latest console and kicks a ton of ass in what can only be called a stellar version of Arkham City.

Review: Big Sky Infinity fails to live up to its wide open potential

Despite the fact that it’s a completely competent shooter, too many issues keep this title from delivering the great experience it could have.

Review: Jack Reacher is a discount crime novel turned Hollywood cinema

If you’re looking for a flick that’s on par with a crime novel, you’ll definitely dig this.

Review: Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2013 makes you the prey – to awful gameplay on the Wii U

This game will probably make you want to get eaten by a bear.

Review: Rapala Pro Bass Fishing is a decent, yet gimmicky Wii U experience

This fishing title is actually pretty enjoyable, and it certainly doesn’t make you want to get eaten by an animal like that shoddy game above.

Review: Black Knight Sword is one of the prettiest games of the year but sadly nothing more

Despite offering some of the best art seen in a game all year, this project fails to give players a worthwhile gameplay experience.

Battlefield 3: Aftermath presents destruction in its most glorious form

Want more Battlefield 3? If so, Aftermath gives you what you want, and it does so in an impressive manner.

Review: Django Unchained is Tarantino at his indulgent best

So what if this isn’t the typical holiday flick? Go watch this impressively awesome Tarantino film ASAP.

We take a look at the next entry in Company of Heroes, and we like what we see.

Preview: Shootmania Storm brings first-person shooting back to basics

If you’re looking for non-stop FPS action, keep an eye on Shootmania.

Preview: The Cave is an intriguing puzzle/platformer hybrid

Aside from being a promising title in terms of its mechanics, the dark tone of The Cave is definitely appealing.

Preview: Marvel Heroes is part Diablo, part MMO, all awesome

Yup, we’re excited about a Marvel MMO. Insane, right?

League of Legends eSports Update: Aphromoo joins CLG North America

clg aphromoo

On their website today, Counter Logic Gaming made numerous announcements in regards to their plans in 2013. The most notable of these announcements was the addition of Zaqueri "Aphromoo" Black to the CLG roster. CLG Prime -- which returns to the original Counter Logic Gaming name now that CLG EU and CLG Black have left the organization -- will be having Aphromoo start as its support player, a role vacated by Locodoco.

About joining CLG, Aphromoo said:

Time to get down to business [...] Being given the opportunity to play support for CLG makes me a little giddy because I will be able to play a role I am most comfortable in, coming from a healer for seven years in World of Warcraft. I will be putting in hard work to master support coming from playing AD carry so much, but with being under CLG I will have the proper tools necessary in order to become the best support in the world. I am happy!

CLG also announced that since CLG Black disbanded, Black's former mid player Austin "Link115" Shin will be joining them as an alternate player and moving into the CLG house in Burbank. To read more about their other plans for 2013, CLG management changes, and CLG EU leaving, visit the clgaming.net.

The Walking Dead retail edition causing problems

Telltale The Walking Dead

You might want to take advantage of all The Walking Dead download sales because the newly released retail edition is creating serious problems for players.

Telltale forum users are reporting that the game on disc is nearly unplayable. They're encountering issues such as freezing and stuttering, quick-time events where the timing is off, and more. Users also said that they couldn't start Episode 2 after completing the first one. An Xbox Live title update was released to address this, but it's still a problem for some.

The developer is aware of the "hitching and stuttering," which is only happening to players with a 4GB Xbox 360 Slim, it says. But users are complaining of problems on other models. Telltale is investigating.

It seems the PlayStation 3 version is also affected with similar problems.

Little Inferno climbs to No. 2 on Wii U eShop

Wii U screenshot by Tomorrow Corp.

Jumping aboard Nintendo's new digital platform on the Wii U has paid off for developer Tomorrow Corporation.

Little Inferno, the puzzle game that launched with the console last month, now ranks in the No. 2 spot on the American Wii U eShop as of today — one spot ahead of the digital download for New Super Mario Bros. U and just below Trine 2: Director's Cut.

"Indie developers have good things to say about the service, and (my favorite thing) the MiiVerse seems to be well loved," wrote studio team member Kyle Gabler. "The new year should bring even more indie games, including Runner 2."

Building vehicles in the weird puzzler Mobiloid costs $1 on IndieGameStand

Article_post_width_mobiloid

Indie puzzler Mobiloid has just made its way to IndieGameStand. The game, developed by Montrezina, is currently available for as a little as $1, giving players the chance to build vehicles and explore various puzzle levels.

Beating the average price ($1.30 as of this writing) will get you the Special Edition of Mobiloid with a bonus track and secret achievement. Paying a total of $10 will get you the game, Kill Fun Yeah, and the next indie title to land on the site.

As is the case with every IndieGameStand release, 10 percent of all proceeds will be donated to charity. The developer has chosen Camfed this time around.

Pid Easy Mode patch is live, thousands reportedly dancing in street

Pid Image

Earlier this month, developer Might and Delight announced that its challenging puzzle platformer Pid would receive a brand new Easy Mode via a downloadable patch. Well, frustrated players need not fret any longer, because the update is now live for the PC version of the game.

According to the developer, the new patch addresses a number of issues that Pid players were having with the game. In addition to throwing in the new Easy option, a few alterations have been made to the game's Normal difficulty. Boss levels have been shortened, difficulty spikes have been smoothed out, and players can switch between the two options without having to restart the game.

"In Pid's Easy Mode we have redesigned nearly ALL levels and maybe most importantly made ALL the boss fights shorter and more simple. We have studied the reviews and playthroughs on YouTube thoroughly to determine how we can create a version of the game that can be enjoyed by everyone."

Still no word on when this patch will hit the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network versions of Pid, but here's hoping it's soon. I can hear the distant cries of upset console players who can't emotionally deal with the high level of difficulty in this charming little puzzler.

Ubisoft rumored as THQ bid front-runner

Article_post_width_ubisoft-thq

Rumors are circulating that Ubisoft is offering a bid to buy THQ's assets. As reported by MCV, Ubisoft is "one of the front-runners" in the bidding to acquire THQ's assets which include the company's brands and development studios.

On Wednesday, THQ officially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, securing an investor — private equity firm Clearlake Capital Group — who is also interested in purchasing THQ's assets. In doing so, Clearlake is providing the money THQ needs to keep working on the products throughout the bankruptcy process.

It's important to realize, however, that other companies (ie. Ubisoft) could swoop in an outbid Clearlake. Although MCV's sources believe Ubisoft is after a "bargain buy, and is prepared to hold-out until THQ is forced to sell off specific assets."

If the rumors turn out to be true, and Ubisoft does manage to successfully win the bid, it means the French firm would add to its already impressive lineup of titles with brands like Saints Row, Company of Heroes, Darksiders, Homefront, Red Faction, and the WWE games license. It'd be quite the acquisition for a publisher who already owns successful brands like the Just Dance, Far Cry, and Assassin's Creed franchises.

Acquiring THQ's assets could turn Ubisoft into a powerhouse publisher. It sounds right in line with CEO Yves Guillemot's goal of turning Ubisoft into the market's number one publisher.

Keep in mind, this is only a rumor, but would you like to see Ubisoft bid on THQ's assets?

Sergey Titov: 'We respect Valve's decision' on removing The War Z from Steam

The War Z

The War Z executive producer Sergey Titov and the rest of the development team are accepting of Valve's decision to pull the recently released game from Steam. For those unfamiliar with the situation, The War Z came under sharp criticism when it was discovered that many of its listed features were not actually in the game. Hammerpoint Interactive attempted to update the product features page and even apologized to those who "misread" it, but by then it was too late — the game had been pulled.

Speaking to PC Gamer, executive producer Sergey Titove said it was "no surprise" that The War Z was removed from Steam.

"Valve contacted us to let us know their concerns based on some of the info circulating in the press and we completely understand their need to sort things out and make certain we are communicating correctly to their audience before we relaunch with them," Titove said. "They have an obligation first and foremost to their customers and we recognize that."

Furthermore, Titove went on to say that the team "respects their decision." He went on to explain how some of the miscommunication and errors may have arose following the game's release.

"As you know we’ve been publicly available since October 15. Over that time I think we (the developers) got used to and took it for granted that players knew what state the game was in and how it was a constantly evolving project, with new features being added on and ongoing basis," he said.

"Clearly the release on Steam introduced the game to players who never followed War Z and we made the mistake of not communicating effectively to the Steam community. Also, during our pre-holiday crunch time with development extending late into the night, there was a major disconnect between our development team and marketing team that resulted in some of the “coming soon” features being listed as current features on the Steam sales page."

"We recognized the above quickly and made the update to the Steam page within the first day of going on sale, however we completely understand that players were upset and felt that we mislead them. We absolutely take responsibility for these inconsistencies. Ultimately, despite all the controversy that has surrounded The War Z – even since the early Alpha launch, we have cultivated a large and loyal player base that is very active in the game and we want to make sure that new players coming into the game now will be satisfied and feel that they are getting a great game experience."

As it stands now, Hammerpoint is currently working with Valve to bring The War Z back to Steam. Prior to its sales being disabled, The War Z was the number one top grossing game title on Steam. Titove didn't say how sales have been affected since its removal, but the game does remain purchasable from the official War Z website.

Minecraft: The Story of Mojang torrent uploaded to The Pirate Bay

Minecraft Image

Normally, I don't condone torrenting. But in the case of today's events, I can't really frown upon it too much. 2 Player Productions has uploaded its soon-to-be-released Minecraft documentary, Minecraft: The Story of Mojang, to the popular, yet controversial torrenting site, The Pirate Bay.

The film, which premiered on Xbox LIVE on Saturday, will be available for purchase on DVD today, Sunday, December 23rd. However, 2 Player Producers has taken it upon them to release it a little early.

"We wanted to come here first because we knew the movie would end up here eventually," they wrote in the listing, "and the best thing to do seemed to be opening a dialogue. Torrents and piracy are a way of life and it probably won't be going anywhere anytime soon. There are many people that want to punish you for that, but we have a more realistic outlook on things."

2 Player Productions does urge that you do "consider" purchasing the DRM-free digital download which is available for just $8 or the DVD for $20.

"We're just three guys trying to make a living doing what we love. We love the world of video games, and we love making it real. If you buy the movie, you support those efforts. The reason we Kickstarted this movie in the first place was that we didn't have enough money to make it ourselves, and even then, we still put A LOT of our own money into it. Not to mention nearly two years of work."

"We've worked with a lot of amazing people in the games industry and had the incredible fortune to make some great films the way we wanted to make them.  Please consider helping us continue on this path.  The best has yet to come."

So that's why Charles Martinet is the narrator for Runner 2

BIT.TRIP Presents Runner 2, Future Legend of Rhythm Alien Image

It's pretty cool that renowned Mario voice actor Charles Martinet was chosen by Gaijin Games to narrate Bit.Trip Presents Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien. It didn't make a whole lot of sense at first, but it was cool nonetheless. Thanks to an explanation from the developer, though, it now makes complete sense, and it's quite simple: Gaijin just really likes Martinet.

"We wanted to get Charles because obviously he's recognizable," said the co-founder of Gaijin Alex Neuse in a statement to Joystiq. "We like him, he's funny, and silly, and great, and awesome. We wanted to have a whimsical character voice that's reminiscent of old cartoons."

The fact that Bit.Trip has always been prominent on Nintendo platforms also influenced this decision. "Our games have been on Nintendo platforms and it kind of felt like ... it's a home, the Nintendo stuff, and he's part of that home, even though he was living in another room until now," explained Neuse.

Of course, Martinet won't be making a charmingly silly high-pitched voice as he narrates Runner 2. Instead, he's playing himself, which is quite interesting. As a matter of fact, he starts off by saying, "I'm Charles Martinet, and now it's time for Bit.Trip Presents Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien."

Martinet won't just be narrating the game at the beginning. He'll also be doing voice work for cutscenes and providing his talent for fake in-game ads. Seriously, fake commercials are probably some of the best commercials.

Atlus's God Mode co-op shooter pokes fun at Greek mythology

Article_post_width_news-god-mode

Atlus has announced a little competition for the biggest mature-rated Greek mythology game on the market.

It's hard not to picture God of War after reading about God Mode, which puts a "gruesome twist on Greek mythology," according to publisher Atlus's press release. The two contain very different styles of gameplay — God of War's hack-n-slash action versus the frantic shooter approach of God Mode — but both put a considerable emphasis on multiplayer, and God Mode's "dark and humorous" view of the afterlife might poke fun where God of War takes itself too seriously.

God Mode even features a familiar-sounding story: You control a now-mortal descendant of an ancient god who's been banished from Mount Olympus. Each player must journey through the Maze of Hades "to seek redemption and reclaim their place in the pantheon."

The game features 1-4 player online and offline co-op multiplayer. Developer Old School Games — a new studio in collaboration with Saber Interactive, which worked on Inversion and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary — promises a high-quality downloadable title at the low cost of $9.99.

God Mode allows players to customize characters' appearance and equipment and redeem gold and experience to unlock new weapons and abilities, which can be upgraded. Additionally, in-game modifiers called Tests of Faith alter gameplay so that matches play out differently each time.

This isn't the first time Atlus has published a game with similar themes to a blockbuster hit. The Cursed Crusade, which came out last year to mostly poor reviews, shared a style in common with Assassin's Creed.

God Mode looks considerably different than God of War, though. Check out the trailer here, and look for the release in early 2013.

Molyneux's Godus game completes its Kickstarter goal

Article_post_width_news-godus-early

Peter Molyneux's Kickstarter for Godus — a god game and modern reinvention of Populous — has reached its funding goal of £450,000 ($730K) with less than 20 hours remaining.

As it neared the end, developer 22Cans shared a prototype video of the game and announced that an Internet connection would not be required to play the single-player mode.

Molyneux also sat down and recorded a multiplayer session.

Do you have faith that Molyneux can deliver what he promises this time? The team at least seems open about the designer's bad habits in the introductory video, which might assure gamers that they're taking their plans for Godus seriously.

Rage DLC launches, looks pretty damn gorgeous

Rage Image Rage Image Rage Image Rage Image

Developer id Software has released some new DLC for its highly underrated FPS Rage. Titled The Scorchers, the add-on content incorporates some new stuff to the main game and is priced at 400 Microsoft Points or $4.99.

What you get with this DLC is a new set of missions, a new clan of bandits to blast up, new weapons, and some new areas. Additionally, there's an extra difficulty setting being thrown in, and the fact that it's called Ultra-Nightmare makes me know that I'll be staying away from that.

I won't, however, be staying away from the DLC. Because I loved Rage. Because it was awesome. Okay?! Seriously, even these new images look pretty rad. Just look at that ugly-ass monster thing!

QUBE

Developer Toxic Games is opening up its indie first-person puzzler QUBE to a bigger audience.

Now Mac owners can play QUBE. (Quick Understanding of Block Extrusion), which originally released for PC last year. The latest update also mentions that it's coming to PlayStation Network in Q2 2013.

Toxic is working on downloadable content for the PC version, which it also intends to release early next year. And the mobile, casual version of QUBEQUBE Touch — is still in development. Toxic said it would have more to announce about it soon.

The developer also has ideas for a sequel, according to an update from August.

Daniel Da Rocha, one of the team's three founders, recently established a second studio called Mudvark in collaboration with Henry Hoffman, the creator of Mush for Windows Phone 7. They have released their first title, Mortar Melon, for free on Windows 8.

The browser-based Highgrounds is a friendly, lightweight version of deck-building strategy games like Magic: The Gathering — but just as addictive.

Your goal is to destroy your opponent's city by placing units around your own. They then attack, defend, generate resources, or complete other actions depending on where they're positioned. Each round gives you a random assortment of new units to choose from, and the variety is what adds to the strategic nature of play.

You can purchase "booster decks" with real money if you choose, but the free game offers plenty of depth and unlockables to keep you and online friends entertained.

Highgrounds is easy to learn, and it's currently in open beta for PC from publisher Spry Fox.

IndieGameStand lets you pick fruit in Blueberry Garden for $1

Blueberry_garden

The latest pay-what-you-want deal on IndieGameStand is a bit of an offbeat, quirky non-adventure. It may not exactly be your typical 2D game, but it's certainly a goodie for a lot of folks. You can currently download Blueberry Garden for $1, which is certainly a lot less than going out and buying actual blueberries.

Paying the minimum fee will get you a Steam code for this interactive experimental title. Beating the average (currently $1.33) will also get you the game's soundtrack and prototypes for three titles. Paying a $10 fee will score you Blueberry Garden, DROD: Gunthro and the Epic Blunder, and the next IndieGameStand title.

The promotion's featured charity this time around is Amnesty International. Ten percent of all proceeds from Blueberry Garden on IndieGameStand will go to this organization.

SimCity will require a constant internet connection, outage might lose game progress

SimCity Image

The guys over at Maxis are doing an AMA on Reddit right now. One of the first questions I've noticed is regarding the game being playable while offline. User human_error asked this:

What will happen to the game if I am playing and lose my internet connection - will the game still be playable and update the servers when my internet connection resumes or will it pause and wait for the connection?

As I have unreliable internet at times if I were to lose a connection and play for a while longer (assuming I would be able to continue to play) would my changes be saved locally in case my internet connection does not come back up before I need to stop playing (and then be uploaded when I next start the game).

I love what the game is looking like and look forward to the multi-player region games, but as you can tell I am concerned about what happens if my internet connection decides to drop for a few hours.

He poses a great question. While it's absolutely true that nowadays, being connected to the internet is about as standard as having running water, the fact remains that sometimes these connections can be unstable. For me, having Xfinity, sometimes losing internet means I don't get it back for days, since a technician can't ever come the same day.

The answer we got was this:

Hey, not avoiding this one. I actually just ran over to our online engineering team to get the latest info. We do handle "short" internet outages gracefully. Meaning, if your internet goes out while you're logged in and playing the game, we can can recover gracefully. You shouldn't notice a thing. "Short" is still being defined.

In short, if you're internet craps out for a longer period of time, you won't be able to play the new SimCity until it comes back on. Why isn't there a dedicated offline mode? The Multi-city play is enticing, but sometimes I just want to play on my own. Looks like another terrible DRM issue.

The biggest issue, and that fans are most worried about, are whether their progress will be lost once the internet goes out, since there is no way to save your city to the server. If it's a short outage, Maxis says they can "recover gracefully," however for those whose internet might go out for longer periods of time, might be out of luck, since it doesn't look like cities are saved locally on your computer.

Review: Rift: Storm Legion offers a ton of content

RIFT Image

In order to begin the expansion, you will find a portal leading to the new continents, Brevane and Dusken, in the snowy recesses of Iron Pine Peak. From there you have the option to choose which new continent you want to explore but either way you’ll be traveling between the two in order to reach the new level cap of 60. These new continents are huge and rival the main continent found in the first game. Additionally, they are filled with more quests and things to do compared to its predecessor.

1

Whether you’re wandering through the deathly plains of Dusken or the warren fields of Brevanne, dangerous monsters await. These new monsters will be tougher than any foe found in the original game and as a result will pose quite a challenge to those seeking it. This means that going through the game solo isn’t recommended but at the same time it also adds a social dynamic that the game encouraged previously. The monsters that inhabit these lands may be joined by creatures that spawn from rifts that open up in the middle of these areas. These rifts require a group to tackle and because they are so spontaneous, it encourages players to stick together and work with each other to overcome such hardships.

2

Questing feels much more cohesive in Storm Legion. Each zone or area within a continent feels like a large playground or a theme park filled with attractions and thrills. Rather than entering a camp or a city to collect all of the quests - making such settlements more like a quest hub rather than a city - players will run into quests much more organically. When you kill a soldier, you can be granted a quest asking for you to kill additional soldiers or often times quests will be lying on the ground just waiting for it to be picked up. Storm Legion breaks the monotonous feeling of clearing all the quests in one region and then finding the next quest hub in another region, just to do the same thing again.

2

Even so, questing in Storm Legion feels largely like a chore due to the repetitive quests and the miniscule amount of experience gained from completing each one. A majority of the quests boil down to killing a certain amount of enemies that exists in one area. After you’re done it’s time to move onto the next sustainable zone of experience. While the way you approach these quests might have changed, the gameplay itself has largely remained the same.

Still, if you enjoyed going around exploring and finishing up all of the quests in a given area, there is great joy to be had. Artifacts are scattered and hidden, giving a sense of accomplishment once you’ve found them all. In addition, the interesting tidbits of stories that you’ll hear from the NPCs in the game help to do a great amount of world-building, as well as construct a narrative that propels you forward as you face off against the dragon Crucia.

Cliff Bleszinski working on a new IP titled Silverstreak

Cliffy_b

Good ol' Cliffy B is a busy man. Well, not really, but he will be soon. Aside from taking a break from game development and going to Disneyland, the man behind Jazz Jackrabbit, Unreal, and Gears of War has been tinkering away on a new project.

While details are scarce, Bleszinski stated that his upcoming IP is codenamed Silverstreak. And that's pretty much all we know so far about this mystery game. I wonder if it's related to the Silverstreak line of busses. Man, those things are comfy!

The Dane Cook look-alike went on to say that he would like to be remembered for more than just chainsaw-guns and men with giant bodies too big for their heads. Okay, so I added that last part, but still.

"It's time for a fresh start," Cook, err, Bleszinski told X-Play. "I'll start a new studio maybe at some point. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when and with who."

Also, this:

The Borderlands: Origins 2 comic came out yesterday

Borderlands 2 Image

Are you a Borderlands fan?  Did you ever wonder just where those vault hunters came from in the first game?  Why Pandora?  Just why were they on that bus with Marcus?  If you read that Borderlands: Origins #1 comic, you’d know all about the story of Roland and how he got the party started.  Now, it is time to read about Lilith in the Borderlands: Origins #2.

I personal played as both Sirens in the Borderlands games so this comic interest me.  What really goes into being a Siren?  Just how much power does she have?  I remember the echo recorders for Maya in Borderlands 2 were pretty dark.  I expect a good story out of Lilith; “Learn how a young girl came to understand her incredible power, and how that power helped to save a world.”

The comic is out in both physical form and digital download, so choose your poison.  The digital download is only $3.99 so WHERE IS YOUR EXCUSE!?  Enjoy.

New Transformers Universe website launches

transformers universe

Today, Jagex, the team developing Transformers Universe, announced the launch of the game's website in preparation for the next stage of the free-to-play MMO's release. If this is your first time hearing about Transformers Universe, it is a free-to-play MMO that focuses on the battle between the Autobots and Decepticons. There's dozens of Transformers to choose from, and you upgrade your Transformers and their abilities. As you win battles as a certain faction, you progress that faction's storyline.

The website will be the hub for the game's BETA, which goes live in early 2013. Tim Hodges, the Transformers Universe Brand Directed, said, "We are delighted to be entering the next phase of our launch plans for Transformers Universe and we hope that players enjoy using this new hub for all the latest Transformers Universe news and information."

Transformers Universe won't be your typical MMO, as traditional MMO tropes don't fit with the brand. Transformers don't carry gold, craft armor and have boss fights. It's going for more of a MOBA feel, with shorter, action-packed matches between players.

To check out the new website and sign up for the BETA, visit www.TransformersUniverse.com.

Journey composer will provide the soundtrack for Leisure Suit Larry

Journey Image

Austin Wintory, the composer behind the award-winning Journey, is currently prepping for his next project. It's not going to be some wondrous epic this time around, though. No, it seems Wintory will now be providing the score for the upcoming and fully funded Leisure Suit Larry revival.

The team at Replay Games reached out to the composer, professing their fandom for Journey and requesting that those same skills be utilized for Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards Reloaded. Wintory stressed that he had fond memories of gaming during the era when Leisure Suit Larry was most prominent, so he naturally agreed.

Wintory explained that he actually has experience creating "sexy music" for films. Okay, now I'm curious! It should prove quite interesting seeing what the music maker comes up with for this project.

The next entry in the Leisure Suit Larry franchise has been Kickstarted and is set to land on PC, Mac, iOS, and Android.

Review: Perixx MX-1000 gaming mouse is both impressive and inexpensive

Article_wrap_mxmousereview

The MX-1000 looks pretty badass, The front of the mouse looks like something out transformers, it has 4 different led colors to pick from and you can change the led pulse settings via the included software.

MX-1000 color settings

How's the grip? Well, both claw and palm gripping feel great and give you full mouse control without feeling awkward or anything like that. Also the little triangle parts that poke out of the side of the mouse, are pretty sweet because you can rest both your pinky finger and thumb on them, which makes them a lovely ergonomic addition and helps you have more control for those 360 no-scopes!!

MX-1000 Side

Now the weight of a mouse is very important and the MX-1000 does not let us down. Although it's a very light mouse, you don't really notice that because you grip it so easily and comfortably. It also features a gold plated usb connecter and braided cable, which means its very light and you cannot feel any resistance when sliding the mouse left, right, up or down. additionally a braided cable knots and twists less (Or so I've found!)

MX-1000 Cable+Gold plated USB

As for the mouse buttons, they are very responsive while also not being too sensitive. The mouse can have 4 different dpi profiles that are changed via the two buttons located below the scroll wheel.

MX-1000 DPI Switch

Lastly and before you ask in the comments, you cannot feel the grooves of megatrons face on the bottom of your hand, because the main part of your hand rests just above it!!

My opinion of the MX-1000's performance has been really good, while playing fps games such as Call of duty/Battlefield or War of the Roses  I have to say that its feels and handles absolutely amazing, In fact i prefer this mouse over my current the Logitech G700 (Odd I know)

But for RTS/Moba games the MX-1000 did not really get on with me since it felt uncomfortable with all that spam clicking!! So if your looking for a good  fps mouse, then the MX-1000 is for your!!

The included software allows you to change the dpi, store profiles on the mouses on board memory, rebind mouse buttons and change the led colors/pulse duration's

The good

The bad

I have found that the MX-1000 is a great little mouse that packs the punch of a high end $$$ mouse without the giant price tag  you've got all the features plus more for only 20-30 dollars/euros/pounds which really make this mouse a great buy if you want to step up your game!

You can grab the MX-1000 on Amazon
